  1. Simply put, “transsexual” is a medical or technical term used to describe a person who has changed sex, for example male to female or female to male. They were born with one sex they did not feel comfortable with and then they decided to change it and now they are of a different sex. Gender is a broader term and encompasses so much more than just sexuality and physiology. Therefore, “transgender” is a person who adopts an overall way of expressing their gender that is different than the norm. Transgender does not have to involve actually changing the sex through surgery or hormone replacement. It simply means that the person does not identify with the gender that was assigned to them at birth. It is a broader term and also encompasses genderqueers, androgynous people, asexual people, etc.

  2. Transsexuals change their sex, literally, they change the genitalia and other things, while transgender do not.

  3. I think it’s the same thing except “transsexual” is more of an old school and obsolete term and “transgender” is more PC.
